Leelanau Historical Society

Mom came to town, to help us out while I observer for one of my classes. Over the week before she showed up on Thursday I was thinking about where else in the area I could take Jack to enrich his experience AND to get pics for this here blog.
One place that I came across is the Leelanau Historical Society up in jolly ol Leland. So in thinking about what to do and where to go I chose this spot and, with Mom, we drove up to Leland to visit. Mom had not been to Leland, her home town, since late 2004 so this was a bit of a homecoming. We didn't do too much in town, our subsequent stops will be debuting on the blog shortly. Here is our first stop then, the historical museum.

What is Jack looking at?

Why it is his Grandmother, alone, watching this DVD that the Historical Society had for sale on the topic of Wooden Boats. The lady at the desk claimed it would make Mom cry.
It didn't.

This is Wilbur Munnecke, a Leland fellow who my Mom knew back in the day. These pre-ceeding photos were taken in the Munakee room, which connects the Leland Library with the Leelanau Historical Museum. Mom was curious about the room because of her slight connection to the family. See back when Mom was a kid she knew this family and remembered them due in part to the fact that the wife had FIFTY (50) cats.

It is wonderful that Jack is experiencing/learning so much at such an early age.
